Benjamin Lacombe is a contemporary French illustrator who is very popular and well-known in Europe. Since childhood, Lacombe has adored Tim Burton's films, and the director's influence is clearly felt in the artist's gothic yet bright and cartoonish illustrations. Over more than 20 years of professional work, Lacombe has illustrated a wide variety of material: his own stories, others' works, classics, and contemporary pieces... His most characteristic works are fairy tales and mystical subjects.
And although "Bambi" belongs to a different genre of literature, in Lacombe's hands it also harbors a certain dark depth: the reader will not see a Disney-esque sunny forest, but a mysterious thicket in the style of the Brothers Grimm, inhabited by animals with cosmically deep eyes. These bunnies and deer seem to know things that we humans cannot access. What could it be? Perhaps answers to questions about life and death?..
"Bambi" by Felix Salten with incredible, breathtaking illustrations. A large, beautiful edition, which also features a special effect - a laser-cut spread where the fawn seems to walk among three-dimensional trees.
