Arkady and Boris Strugatsky: Doomed City
The usual price $21.95It is hard to believe that the best, standard example of Russian science fiction - The Doomed City by the Strugatsky brothers - was conceived back in the late 60s, and completed in 1972 - it is hard to believe, too amazing, impossible for those times, the degree of inner freedom this novel. So they didn’t even write “on the table” ... This seemed incredible. However, the whole incredible, almost detective story of the fate of the "City of the Doomed", presented in the "Comments" to the novel, makes us believe that it was exactly so. And reading the novel is only more interesting because of this! One of the most mysterious books of the Strugatsky brothers, the genre and goals of which each reader defines for himself in his own way. Philosophical parable? Dystopia? A coming of age romance? The main character, Andrei Voronin, finds himself in the City, where there is a universal right to a variety of work. He tries himself in different professions and finds himself in difficult, sometimes contradictory life situations. What is the purpose of the mysterious Urban Experiment, which brings together people pulled out of different time layers? Or is this the case when the correct formulation of the question is much more important than the answer?
