"Woe from Wit" is a masterpiece of Russian literature. Griboyedov was a renowned linguist and diplomat, an economist and historian, a musician and composer. Yet, he considered literature his primary and favorite occupation. Alexander Sergeyevich possessed an incredibly keen sense of life and was generations ahead of his time; that is why even today one can easily hear quotes from his great works, which have not lost their relevance in nearly two hundred years. This play is a satire on the aristocratic Moscow society of the first half of the 19th century. The main conflict flares up between Chatsky, a representative of the new generation of nobility, and the Famusov society, where it is customary to value not the individual, but their rank and money.
