“The Captain's Daughter” is A. S. Pushkin's last major prose work and the result of his deep research into the history of the Pugachev uprisings that swept through Russia in the second half of the 18th century. Yet, the central focus of the novel remains the love story, and the gripping personal tale of young officer Pyotr Grinev and Masha Mironova, the daughter of a frontier fortress commandant, makes this text not only profound but also captivating for its readers. The people and the era, vividly portrayed by Pushkin in this historical novel, come to life in the illustrations by Alexei Dmitrievich Reypolsky, a master of book illustration. The text is printed unabridged and is accompanied by notes.
