…Railway engineer Sergey Ivanovich Morozov, while taking a walk with his wife Masha down Kosoy Lane in Saint Petersburg on Christmas Eve before the New Year of 1912, gets caught in a magical snowfall that, as it turns out, only occurs there once every fifty years. Without yet realizing it themselves, the couple becomes the fulfillers of children's New Year dreams for the next half-century — as Ded Moroz (Father Frost) and the Snegurochka (Snow Maiden). They are stunned by their new abilities and for a long time consider all the miracles they perform to be mere coincidences. However, the novel’s protagonists have their eyes opened by the ptyorki and okhli—representatives of a magical folk who become their constant assistants during the days and nights leading up to the New Year… "The True Story of Ded Moroz" combines a fairy tale with a narrative about the real history of Russia in the 20th century. It is aimed at children aged 8-12, those who have not yet completely parted with their belief in a New Year miracle, but are already ready to learn the truth about the life and history of their country.
