The Kuril Islands are mountains, volcanoes, cliffs, the Sea of Okhotsk on one side, and the vast Pacific Ocean on the other. The trees here are small, but the grasses are gigantic. On land, the wildlife is not very diverse, but in the water, there is everything imaginable! Local residents use helicopters instead of buses, and scientists make discoveries on almost every visit—from a new plant to an entire island.
