Arthur Rimbaud is a preeminent figure of 19th-century French poetry and one of the most brilliant authors in world literature. He is known, among other things, for writing poetry only in his early youth, after which he abandoned his creative work.
A young, rebellious dreamer, despising the "high ideals" of his contemporaries, tormented by adolescent complexes, his mother's tyranny, provincial idiocy, and bohemian drunkenness, he created poems of astonishing beauty, power, and passion, whimsically blending the beautiful and the base, and breaking with the conventional traditions of poetic thought. Rimbaud's poems are unusual and surprise with their shameless descriptions and choice of epithets. His lyrics are very bold even for our time, let alone the 19th century.
This collection includes the entire main body of Rimbaud's poems, including the prose cycles "Illuminations" and "A Season in Hell" in the best translations available today.
