Denis is sure that he got incredibly lucky with his mom. She can do everything—all at the same time! She cooks, squeezes lemons, waters flowers, cleans the house, plays ball with Denis, and taps away at her laptop keys. And she talks on the phone while doing it all! And she manages to get it all done! One day, Denis found a book on a shelf with a creature on the cover that had a bunch of arms or legs, looking just like… his mom! But his mom told him it was a book about an octopus. And that was when it hit Denis: his mom didn't even realize she had so many arms! He decided he needed to save her immediately, because a person shouldn't look like an octopus. It just so happened that his discovery coincided with their move to another city, where his mom was born and raised. His grandparents, his aunt—his mom's younger sister—and old friends and kind neighbors of their family still lived there. So, suddenly, Denis had a lot of help in his mission to save his mom. Grandma cooked, Grandpa took Denis to kindergarten, his mom's childhood friend kept him busy, and Denis and his aunt helped his mom with the housework. And with every passing day, his mom had fewer and fewer arms, until one fine evening, Denis noticed that she finally had exactly as many as a person should. Exactly two! And then he realized that his mom had been saved!
Every mom is probably familiar with that feeling of starting to feel like an octopus—or rather, an "octo-mom." The author of this book, Asli Perker, noticed after her daughter was born that she herself was slowly turning into an octopus. That’s when she decided to write about it, so that all children would know how to help their "octo-moms" become happy. And the illustrations for this book were created by another mom—artist Ezgi Keleş, who also manages to raise a child, take care of a cat, and illustrate children's books and magazines.
