Betty O'Barley and Harry O'Hay were scarecrows. They loved each other dearly and decided to get married. One evening, Harry said, "Will you marry me?" "Yes, please!" cried Betty, and they began to make preparations. A spider tailor stitched a lovely gown from white goose feathers. The cows lent their bells to ring merrily at the wedding. A crab strung a necklace of colorful shells. The busy mice searched the yard and found rings from old curtains. All that remained was to pick a bouquet, and Harry went off to find one. But a day passed, then a second, and Harry still hadn't returned. Meanwhile, the farmer placed a new scarecrow in the field – the dapper Harry.
