This book includes two stories by Eduard Uspensky: "Bahram the Magician" and "The Story of Geveychik, the Gutta-percha Man."
Bahram the Magician, an all-powerful genie from the underground realm, dreams of finding a clever apprentice in his old age. But where to find one? Two thousand years ago, Bahram himself was kidnapped off the street. The genie decides to do exactly the same. And he makes a fatal mistake…
Geveychik is a rubber man. His dad brought him to kindergarten-goer Galya from somewhere in the Amazon jungle. He becomes the leader of Galya's group: Asya the cat, Persik the hamster, Tyapa the dog, and other strange characters.
Third-grader Masha Skripkina couldn't stand natural science. It was a subject they used to have, about nature, the weather, and mineral resources. Masha couldn't stand those, either.
Especially the observation diary. So, the girl ran away from class and walked in the opposite direction from school. It ended sadly: a huge head emerged from a sewer manhole and dragged Masha underground.
Any other girl might have died of fear, but Masha got angry. And when she realized why she had been kidnapped, she got even angrier! She decided to outsmart these mossy kidnappers.
