"The Chronicles of Pantouflia" was written by Andrew Lang, a translator, historian, ethnographer, and chairman of the Folklore Society in London. He certainly knew his way around fairy tales, there's no doubt about that!
In "Pantouflia," there are princes and princesses, dragons and fairies, giants and dwarfs, deeds of valor and sorcery—the author masterfully mixes all of these together to tell his tale with irony, wit, and great humor. An overly educated prince who doesn't believe in magic refuses to fight a dragon because he thinks it’s silly to challenge an imaginary beast to a duel. Meanwhile, another prince does nothing but rush around the world looking for a giant or monster to test his strength against, while his parents worry that he will fail his college entrance exams because he knows no geography, mathematics, or ancient languages—in fact, he knows nothing at all! All in all, this book has plenty to read, laugh about, and ponder for both children and adults.
