The parents of a curious teenager named Goshka set off for Brazil in search of rare plants, leaving their son for the entire summer with his grandfather, who lives far away in Siberia, studying the behavior of wild animals. Goshka arrives at the biological research station and immediately plunges into a new, incredibly exciting life. He instinctively realizes that the wolves will be the most interesting subjects for him, and that is exactly how it turns out. Goshka manages to establish a close bond with a wolf named Donna and begins to conduct genuine scientific observations of her behavior.
An undoubted merit of the book is the way the relationships between the various children and adults are portrayed: realistically, without moralizing, but with precise pedagogical nuance. Furthermore, "between the lines" and amidst the tense plot twists, the author shares a wealth of interesting and useful information from the fields of biology and zoology.
