This edition includes the most significant works of Ivan Shmelev, representing the major milestones of his creative path: the novellas "The Man from the Restaurant," "Crossroads," and "The Inexhaustible Cup," the epic "The Sun of the Dead," and the novels "The Summer of the Lord" and "A Pilgrimage." According to his contemporaries, Ivan Shmelev became the "most Russian" of the émigré writers, one who spoke the entire "profound truth" about Russia, creating a beautiful and luminous image of it—purged of incidental details and imbued with higher meaning and faith. By transcending the boundaries of national literature, Shmelev’s work attained universal significance; his works gained European fame and have been translated into dozens of languages. The writer was twice nominated for the Nobel Prize in Literature.
