Evelyn Waugh (1903-1966) was an eminent British writer, biographer, and journalist, one of the most subtle English stylists, and a recognized master of black humor and lethally caustic satire, often imbued with a hidden lyricism. He was the creator of grotesquely humorous fantasies that whimsically refract the lifestyle and ideological paradoxes of the fading British Empire. In addition to his novels (among which are such famous works as "Brideshead Revisited," "The Loved One," and others), the author's creative legacy includes several collections of short stories; these were written at different times throughout his life and combined, in miniature form, the elements that earned the author his reputation as one of the greatest prose writers of the 20th century. According to critics, Evelyn Waugh's stories are a quintessence of his style, "sketches and false starts for longer works," as well as compelling evidence that one of the most revered and beloved English novelists was also an unsurpassed master of the short form.
This edition presents works by Evelyn Waugh collected in "Mr. Loveday's Little Outing and Other Early Stories," as well as "Juvenilia" and "Oxford Stories."
