This collection by Kir Bulychev includes two novellas about the adventures of Alisa Selezneva and her friends: "Ancient Secrets" and "Pashka the Troglodyte".
The first novella tells the story of Alisa's class beginning their historical internship, where each student chooses a mystery of the past to solve. Arkasha Sapozhkov travels to the Mesozoic era to find out why the dinosaurs went extinct. In the distant past, he witnesses a space battle and the destruction of a starship. The mystery of the dinosaurs' disappearance turns out to be linked to this event.
In the second novella, Alisa's best friend, Pashka Geraskin, chooses the Stone Age for his historical research and, posing as an orphan, settles in a cave of troglodytes. He tries to teach his tribesmen new knowledge, becomes a great hunter himself, gets involved in an ancient war, and leads his tribe into trouble. He faces a daunting task: to save himself and unravel the mystery of the Neanderthals' disappearance.
