Apollon Maykov, Yakov Polonsky, Ivan Bunin, Alexander Blok, Sergey Yesenin. The poetically sublime landscapes of Nikolai Ustinov capture the lyrical mood of these five classic Russian poets with extraordinary precision. Nikolai Ustinov’s drawings are filled with more than just color and light. It is as if you can hear in them the quiet snorting of grazing horses, the clatter of cart wheels crossing a creaky wooden bridge, the twittering of swallows and the call of cranes, the dripping of spring meltwater, and the sound of the forest rustling before a storm... Few artists can feel the lines of great poets about the beauty and changeability of the Russian landscape with their entire soul and translate them into the language of illustration.
