On the outskirts of the city, amidst standard new buildings, stands the Gray House, home to Sphinx, Blind, Lord, Tabaqui, Macedonian, Black, and many others. It is unknown whether Lord truly hails from a noble line of dragons, but Blind is indeed blind, and Sphinx is wise. Tabaqui is, of course, no jackal, though he does enjoy profiting from the belongings of others. Everyone in the House has a nickname, and a single day within its walls can sometimes contain more than we, in the Outside, could live in an entire lifetime. The House either accepts or rejects everyone. The House guards a multitude of secrets, and banal "skeletons in the closet" are merely the most understandable corner of that invisible world where there is no passage from the Outside, and where the usual laws of space-time cease to function. The House is something much greater than a boarding school for children abandoned by their parents. The House is their own separate universe.
