“The Divnomorsk Detectives: The Case of the Beach Thief” is a book that will appeal to mystery lovers and even those who aren’t very keen on reading yet. A twisty plot, easy-to-read text, bright and funny illustrations, and “relatable” characters—ordinary schoolkids.
The story begins in the town of Divnomorsk. Arriving in the resort town to visit her uncle for the holidays, Zhenya Ostroumova had no idea that dangerous adventures and… her first real investigation were waiting for her. The girl makes friends, and together they notice that someone is stealing wallets from vacationers right on the beach. Why do the thefts happen every three days? Who is committing these brazen crimes when all the suspects are in plain sight?
The book’s author, Marina Belyaeva, admits that as a child she loved racking her brain over Agatha Christie’s complex Poirot investigations. Just like in the stories of the great writer, the ending of “The Adventures of Zhenya Ostroumova: The Case of the Beach Thief” will come as a surprise to readers!
