The main characters of this book are Tyltyl and Mytyl, the children of a poor woodcutter. On Christmas night, an old woman appears to them and asks them to go in search of the Blue Bird. The old woman's granddaughter is ill, and only the magical bird that brings happiness can restore her health. Tyltyl and Mytyl agree, and then the old woman suddenly turns into a fairy, all objects come to life, and the pets gain the gift of speech. Together with their faithful dog Tylo and the cunning cat Tylette, as well as the animated Bread, Sugar, Water, and Fire, the children set off on an amazing journey. They will need all their courage, agility, and wit, but above all kindness and sensitivity, to find the bird of happiness and give it to the sick girl.
