In pre-revolutionary Russia, literally everyone knew the name Teffi. They wrote about her: “Teffi in our literature (and only ours!) Is the only phenomenon and hardly repeatable. The “Queen of Russian humor” enjoyed such great fame that the “words” of her characters instantly became winged, because the sharp look of the writer was able to grasp the truth of life, to notice both the funniest and the most tragic. Teffi's stories, even sad ones, can still evoke in the reader a feeling of pity for those over whom she laughs good-naturedly, just good-naturedly, since her humor is always benevolent.
