"The Pancake" is one of the most famous social games created by German psychotherapist Günter Horn. Its main goal is to develop communication skills (learning to negotiate, assert one's rights, compromise, apologize), as well as to recognize one's own feelings and those of other players. It is particularly important that the game helps participants realize and work through the theme of personal boundaries and teaches them how to deal with aggression in a socially acceptable way (expressing aggression is allowed by the rules, but it is limited by time and the framework of the game). There are no standard game pieces in this game; participants mold their own from modeling clay, creating their representative on the board and taking responsibility for it. In doing so, they demonstrate how they relate to themselves and others, as well as what their desires and intentions are. During the game, a wide variety of relationships emerge between participants; sometimes someone's figure may even be crushed, turned into a "pancake." Although the formal goal of the game is to be the first to reach the Castle in human form, the process often becomes so engaging that the true goal becomes the live interaction between the participants, the development of their own behavioral style, and the exploration of strategies for interacting with other players. The game can be played many times, changing characters, altering their personalities, and setting additional rules (such as creating rules for behavior on empty, unoccupied houses).
