Fifth-grader Serafim Derivolkov's diary is regularly filled with remarks from his teacher. But not just "Misbehaved" or "Talked during class," rather the most unusual ones. Yes, Serafim keeps getting into various interesting situations, constantly putting a dent in his homeroom teacher's nervous system. The protagonist, on principle, eats his vocabulary dictation, drinks juice using shoelaces, sits under his desk with a loaf of bread, calls his friend an eggplant in class, bites a classmate, and hides in a closet after the bell.
Offbeat stories happen to Serafim outside of school as well. He is the right-hand man to a retiree named Arkadyev (he had to go through an entire casting process for this position). Together with him and a high school student named Zhenya Makhaonov, the hero patrols his neighborhood, lies in ambush, and reconciles neighbors. And he also investigates the circumstances behind the appearance of a UFO in the courtyard and looks into the disappearance of a cake belonging to Krol the pharmacist.
