The book includes two pearls of Russian prose: the stories "The Enchanted Wanderer" and "Lefty". In the center of the story "The Enchanted Wanderer" is the journey of Ivan Flyagin, who voluntarily went to the active army in the Caucasus. Many trials fall to the lot of Ivan Severyanych: he happened to be a serf, a nanny with a young child, a slave in the Tatar nomads, a soldier and even a novice in a monastery. The hero of the story "Lefty" is a gifted craftsman, a simple Tula master, a left-hander. He so skillfully shod a small steel flea brought from England that he managed to conquer the West with the talent of the Russian people.
Illustrations by Nikolai Kuzmin support the spirit of the Russian national character of these works and help the reader to feel the images of the main characters.
