Summer, English countryside, seaside, two hours by train to London. Mary spends her holidays with her good-natured grandfather and caring Aunt Alice. And everything seems to be fine, but for some reason Mary is angry all the time. She understands that there is nothing to be angry about, but she wants to seem irreconcilable, harsh and disobedient.
Mary probably lacks the attention of her parents. Because sometimes it seems to her that she is just as homeless and no one needs her, like the wild one-eyed warrior Noakes, her beloved cat who remained in a city apartment.
One day, trying to somehow vent her bitterness, Mary goes to the sea and meets pier with Simon, a responsible boy who has to take care of four younger sisters. Soon, an amazing incident on the shore and a common secret will connect new acquaintances and fill Mary’s life with meaning.
