The familiar life with their parents in a cozy home is left behind, and now Oliver and Sophie are surrounded only by the gloomy walls of an orphanage and the relentlessly approaching winter. The caretaker doesn't fuss much: the food here is very meager, the logs in the fireplace burn out quickly, and the bedrooms are so cold in the morning.
One day, a mysterious stranger in a black top hat appears in town. Where did he come from, and what is he looking for? Can he be trusted to take them on an unexpected journey? Oliver will have to encounter true magic, shed light on his own family's history, and rediscover what seemed to be lost forever. For middle school age.
