An amazing tale about a robot named Roz who ends up on a deserted island. The story begins with a shipwreck. Caught in a storm, a cargo ship sinks, along with its freight—numerous crates, each neatly packed with hundreds of robots. Gradually, the wreckage is washed up by the waves onto an island lost in the endless waters. All the crates are smashed against the coastal rocks, but one survives and ends up on the shore. It is discovered by curious sea otters. While exploring and playing with the box, they unpack its contents and... Click! The robot comes to life.
Roz opens her eyes and looks around. She is on an island. She doesn't know how she got there, why she is there, or what she should do. But she realizes she needs to learn how to survive. Roz is an assistant robot; she has the incredible ability to learn quickly, analyze information, and apply her new skills. Gradually, she realizes that it is very important to make friends with the local inhabitants—the numerous and diverse animals. But how can she do that if they are afraid of her?
Ultimately, Roz manages to learn the animals' language, find a family and friends, and understand the meaning and purpose of her existence. And what’s more... she becomes the best mother to a little gosling named Brightbill.
“The Wild Robot” is an unexpected book from beginning to end. It is very moving, humane, and kind.
