Russian writer Sergei Timofeevich Aksakov heard this tale in childhood, during an illness. The housekeeper Pelageya, a great master of telling fairy tales, whom the late grandfather of the writer loved to listen to, told him about a scarlet flower, about a rich merchant and his three beautiful daughters, about a terrible monster who turned out to be an enchanted prince-king.
