In a little house with a carrot-top roof lived a sheep named Stew, a wolf named Wok, and a little crocodile named Omelet, all living together in happy harmony. One day, Omelet went chasing after a stick, but brought back a tiger cub instead — soft, fluffy, and truly cuddly! The sheep wanted to keep the cub, but the wolf said they had to take him back home. As they headed upriver, the cub didn't leave the sheep's side for a moment: he kept snuggling up to her and purring affectionately into her ear. "What a precious little thing!" said the sheep, and everyone they met on the way agreed. Only Omelet noticed what others couldn't see: the cub didn't like mice and fish just for fun, he liked them for dinner! And his interest in the sheep wasn't quite what it seemed, either! Omelet's suspicions were confirmed when the cub led them home to his tiger mom and dad. Everything could have ended very sadly, if not for Omelet, who was hard to call "precious," but who proved to be a loyal and devoted friend!
British author Steve Smallman has created a story about true friendship that helps develop critical thinking, teaches how to distinguish selfless love from pretense, and encourages looking beyond appearances to see one's true nature. The young French artist Joëlle Dreidemy created funny and touching illustrations for this story.
