The second part of Tamara Petkevich's memoirs, "Life is an Odd Shoe," was released under the title "Against the Backdrop of Stars and Fear" and serves as a continuation of the first book. The narrative covers the years following her release from the labor camp. Everything left unsaid—unfinished destinies, incomplete portraits, frayed threads of human relationships—found its conclusion. The longed-for freedom, dreamt of in the camp barracks, restored the right to a normal existence and marked the beginning of a new life, yet it did not rid her of the terrifying ghosts of the past or the pain caused by the impossibility of reclaiming what had been forever stolen by captivity. The book was published in 2008, fifteen years after the first part, and has since gone through several editions and been translated into German. A play based on the book was staged in Saint Petersburg, and Tamara Petkevich became a laureate of several literary awards: "Krutaya Lestnitsa" (Steep Stairs), "Petropol," and the Gogol Prize.
