It would be hard to find a person who has not watched and loved the film "Moscow Does Not Believe in Tears." The story of Katya, a girl from the provinces who arrives to conquer Moscow, is familiar to more than one generation of Russian viewers. However, the literary work "Moscow Does Not Believe in Tears" has been much less fortunate. Few readers could say with certainty that they are familiar with the characters and events that did not make it into the film. And that is a pity. Valentin Chernykh, a well-known Russian author and screenwriter (the films "Earthly Love," "To Love Russian-Style," "Marry a Captain," and others), has a brilliant knack for captivating the reader with unexpected plot twists or a slightly different, unusual take on a beloved character. V. K. Chernykh's work is multifaceted and diverse; he is always attentive to the hallmarks of the era, whether it be the war, the Brezhnev stagnation, Perestroika, or the realities of the nineties.
