The protagonist of the story, second-grader Jendrek, is a sweet boy and a good friend. He has a wonderful mom and dad, a tiny baby sister named Ewa, a slightly mischievous twin sister named Magda who likes to boss her brother around sometimes, and a loyal friend named Rybka.
At school and at home, during summer vacation and on holidays, all sorts of funny things happen to Jendrek. Sometimes he gets doused with a bucket of water, sometimes a ghost knocks on his window at a summer camp, or he gets his errands mixed up. He also teaches his friend how to solve math problems about oranges and a crocodile, plays a horse in a play, and comes up with a mind-blowing gift for his dad with his sister.
Jendrek calmly and with dignity gets out of every scrape and tells the stories in a fun way.
The world and the people in this book are exceptionally kind and reasonable, and the Polish boy Jendrek himself is somewhat reminiscent of the famous Deniska from the stories by writer Viktor Dragunsky.
