Where does a polar bear live? In the North, amidst the permafrost? In the Arctic? Above the Arctic Circle? Actually, no—he is quite close by, perhaps even on the next street over. True, this isn't an adult bear, but just a little, clumsy cub named Fomka. He flew to us on a big white airplane, settled into a regular Moscow apartment, and made such a mess that he had to be moved to the zoo. He loves bathing in icy water, prefers condensed milk for lunch, and loves to play tricks! He is so sweet and plush that you inadvertently forget he is actually a real predator!
Vera Chaplina's stories about charming bear cubs and their zoo neighbors will be a wonderful way to introduce a child to wildlife (and the not-so-wild kind). Of course, your child will now constantly ask you to take them to the zoo to visit their new animal friends, but at least you will finally know exactly where a polar bear lives!
