Victor Pelevin is one of the most famous contemporary writers, whose novels from the 1990s, collected in this volume, have significantly influenced the development of Russian literature. Reality intertwined with phantasmagoria, eccentric plots, and the combination of heterogeneous techniques have become the key to the enduring success of V. Pelevin's works among readers.
The Life of Insects is a unique phantasmagoric world in which the most mundane phenomena of post-Soviet reality appear as reflections of eternal magical rituals. A world in which people-mosquitoes, people-moths, and people-scarabs try to know themselves, but by revealing lies, they do not get closer to the truth, and by multiplying lies, they do not move away from the truth.
The protagonist of the novel "Buddha's Little Finger" is Pyotr Pustota, a psychiatric patient who imagines himself a decadent poet. He lives in two different eras: in 1919 he meets Chapayev, serves as a commissar in his division, falls in love with Anka, and almost dies in battle; and in another reality, he meets Kawabata, Schwarzenegger, and "Simply Maria"...
In the years since the release of "Generation 'П'", the clients and creators of advertising have changed, and computer reality has become more important than television. But the cult status of the novel has not changed: its allegorical nature proved stronger than the ephemeral. Young people still recognize themselves in Vavilen Tatarsky, and spiritualist séances with Comandante Che reveal to them the truth about the nature of man and society.
