In a small Siberian village there is no sea, and one cannot become a sailor. That is why Alexei Solnyshkin decides to escape to the port city of Okeansk. There he is hired as a cabin boy on the ship "Give it!" and goes on a long voyage, where he learns the intricacies of marine science.
