V. F. Odoevsky considered children's literature an important element of upbringing, one that develops "wholesome" feelings in a child's soul, and he placed great importance on combining scientific accuracy with an engaging narrative. He authored the first science fiction tale, "The Town in the Snuffbox" (1834). The main character, a boy named Misha, receives a musical snuffbox as a gift. The boy's curiosity knows no bounds; he desperately wants to understand how everything works and is interconnected. Misha’s wish comes true, and he meets the fairy-tale inhabitants of the musical snuffbox after finding himself inside it. From a scientific point of view, the mechanism is described very accurately, and the fairy-tale form makes the description extremely captivating. This collection includes the most famous works of V. F. Odoevsky for children – "The Town in the Snuffbox," "Moroz Ivanovich," and "The Indian Tale of the Four Deaf Men."
