A father Rabbit went into the woods to find food for his large family. He filled a bag with apples, but on his way home, he met various forest inhabitants and generously shared the ripe fruit with all of them. First, he treated a bear, then some squirrels, a hedgehog, a goat with her kids, and a mole. The generous Rabbit gave the very last apple to a grumpy Crow. She took it, even though she complained that the hungry little rabbits would be left with nothing.

The Rabbit had to return to the apple tree to pick more, but it wasn't that simple. First, he got caught in a rainstorm with thunder, and when he reached the apple tree, he saw a Wolf, who was delighted that such a tasty prize had come straight into his paws. But the Rabbit threw his empty sack over the wolf's head and made his escape.

Meanwhile, as the mother rabbit and her bunnies waited for their father, the animals to whom our hero had given the apples began to arrive at their home with treats. The squirrels brought nuts, the hedgehog a basket of mushrooms, the goat brought cabbage and milk, and the mole brought carrots, potatoes, parsley, and beets.

When the poor, wet, and tired Rabbit returned home empty-handed, his well-fed children were already asleep. And then, finally, startling everyone with a loud knock, the bear appeared with a barrel of honey as a thank you for the apples.

The next day, the large rabbit family sat at a table full of all kinds of treats. And the Crow wondered how so much goodness could come out of an empty bag.

Kind deeds are always rewarded. Be generous and caring, and it will all come back to you tenfold. But one should not be like the envious and spiteful Crow. This is the moral of the story about the kind and selfless Rabbit, written and illustrated by artist and storyteller Vladimir Grigoryevich Suteev.
