The book has an unusual destiny because Oscar-winning director Jan Svěrák first made an animated film about Kooky and only later wrote the book.
Kooky, a rag bear, one day found himself in a pile of discarded things. But he knows how much he is needed by his owner, a boy named Ondra.
Six-year-old Ondra is allergic to dust. And he loves his Kooky, who can no longer be washed, very much. One day, Ondra wakes up and sees that his toy is gone. And he worries about what
will happen to the little bear, who doesn't know his home address? Kooky "comes to life" through Ondra's pleas, and his adventures begin. Kooky tries to escape from the dump where he ended up,
encounters guards made of plastic bags who say that escaping from the dump means breaking the law, and then Kooky ends up in a forest where events unfold rapidly.
Upon waking up, Ondra finds Kooky under his bed. Surprised, his mother decides that Kooky and Ondra really shouldn't be separated. And she agrees to put him in the freezer instead of washing him. But Kooky's story
doesn't end there, because one day Ondra saw a man in the city who looked very, very much like a character from Kooky's adventures…
