This small collection was bound to come into being. It includes very simple, very accessible, and at the same time, wildly imaginative prose and poetic works. They are united by a unique tone, gentle absurdity, and the authors' kind humor.
Two wonderful and talented people—Yuri Koval and Leonid Mezinov—worked together for a time. That is how "Red Beard" and "The Tale of the Teapot" were born—part tall tales, part fantasies.
Matching the characters of these merry stories is the mind-blowing cast that Yuri Koval gathered in his poems. Here you will find curious elephants, crocodiles growing in a garden bed, cats and dogs of all colors and breeds, a cyclist—just imagine!—with cuckoos on his head and nightingales on his shoes, the cunning Ivan hiding in a chest, and even a king with Lilliputians. And all these characters are so relatable, funny, and dear that readers of all ages fall in love with them completely and irrevocably from the very first lines.
Artist Alexey Charugin has used a child-like sincerity to create a bright, joyful, fairy-tale space populated by colorful characters.
Recommended for preschool and primary school-aged children, as well as anyone who appreciates beautiful literary language and the magical flight of creative thought.
