У меня была такая книжка!

I had such a book!

It happens to you, you see a book, and immediately memories come flooding back, and childhood, and grandma, and the smell of pancakes in the morning. Well, that’s how it is for me, but you, perhaps, have a dacha, and summer, and a bicycle. Or mom, and sweet medicine, and lie in bed all day because you are sick, and read, read, read. Everyone has their own childhood, and we all had the same books, and many of us have the same sweet squeeze in our hearts, and we want to open, re-read, remember, and share this bright and poignant thing with our children.

And we do just that, and sometimes it’s perfect, we read it avidly, and reread it, and the book is still just as good, both for us and for the children. All of Uspensky is like that. “Uncle Fyodor” is still the same: both in books and on TV. And with new cartoons, it began to sparkle with new colors, becoming even closer and more understandable to children. And there’s nothing to say about Down the Magic River. There are all our favorite characters, and our children also really like them: Baba Yaga and Leshy, Koschey and Vasilisa the Wise, Serpent Gorynych and Cat Bayun. They ask for it again and again and again and again. And the book is not small, but they know it by heart. I can no longer read it, I feel sad, sometimes I fall asleep, sometimes I get confused in the words. And they invariably stop me and correct me: “Mom, not in a human voice, but in a human voice!” And then we watch an old movie together, and they like it and ask for more. And - let's go: Marya-Morevna, Fire, Water and Copper Pipes, Morozko, Varvara-Krasa - another such bridge along which you can take your children and show them what we lived like when we were just as small.

And sometimes it turns out funny. Many modern parents have probably encountered this: you take Chukovsky and start reading to your baby. This is one of his first books, and it’s great and fun: now we’re already reading books! And here.

And what a mother

Agrees to give

Your dear child -

Teddy bear, wolf cub, elephant, -

To an unfed scarecrow

Poor baby

tortured!

They cry, they are killed,

With the kids forever

say goodbye.

And now you begin to skip words and change them as you go: “He ran along the path, and to him. rubbed your legs,” and you don’t understand how it is that you didn’t remember about those cut legs, and that means they didn’t particularly traumatize you as a child, but you can’t read something like that to a child! Or “Mishkina porridge”: there their mother left them alone at the dacha and went to the city. And they are probably eight years old there, and they cook their own porridge. At this point the child’s eyes widen, and he doesn’t understand: “Why did mom leave them alone?” Well what can I say? Because it was like that before. Now it’s different, and some things are already very difficult to explain. But you can try. Open the book, say, you know, when I was little, and... forward!
