The novel in verse by A. S. Pushkin "Eugene Onegin" is one of the most significant works of Russian literature. The novel covers events from 1819 to 1825: from the foreign campaigns of the Russian army after the defeat of Napoleon to the Decembrist uprising.
According to the well-known critic V. G. Belinsky, the novel is an "encyclopedia of Russian life" of the early 19th century.
