Stephen Desmonde’s life had been mapped out from birth—the son of a clergyman, he was sent, in keeping with family tradition, to study theology in order to eventually become a rector in a rural parish. However, Stephen’s soul rebelled against such a fate; he had long since decided to become an artist, to see the world and capture it in color and line. Defying his father’s will, Stephen sets off in pursuit of his dream, towards difficult trials, bitter disappointments, and great hopes.
