Vanity Fair is not only the most famous novel by the Victorian writer William Thackeray, but also one of the most widely read works in the world. The pages of this book unfold a broad panorama of life in England in the first half of the 19th century. People from different social circles pass in front of the reader in a long line: businessmen, aristocrats, officials, members of parliament, landowners, military men, diplomats, governesses, lackeys. All of them live according to the laws of the “fair”, where everything is sold and everything is bought, where everything is ruled by success and wealth. It is extremely exciting to watch how their destinies intertwine with each other, forming bizarre patterns and patterns.
In this edition, the novel is published with magnificent illustrations by the artist Grigory Filippovsky (1909–1987).
