That Monday didn’t go well at all: the Internet was turned off in the morning, they left them at school after classes, and then my mother was stunned by the terrible news - now a stranger’s girl would live with them! How could such a day end? Fleeing from three bandits who dream of taking Matvey’s phone; a trip on a half-empty bus to the outskirts of the city; a desperate attempt to hide in an abandoned concrete pipe. And ending up in an alternative universe, where no Matvey Dobrovolsky exists, and instead of him there is a girl named Miloslava!
There is nowhere to wait for help: who will believe in a fairy tale about a seventh-grader lost between worlds? Neither teachers, nor classmates, nor parents, nor friends (which Matvey doesn’t have anyway). Is it the strange Venya Vatrushkin who always gets into trouble? This is someone who understands fantasy stories!
Victoria Lederman understands fantastic stories no worse than her hero, and the new story “The Theory of Improbabilities” is an excellent example of a fascinating, modern and unobtrusively instructive work.
