A fairy tale story by Vladislav Krapivin about courage, friendship and betrayal, meanness and nobility. The protagonist of this book, an ordinary boy, Zhenya Ushakov, finds himself on the fabulous island of Dvid, enslaved by a terrible Lizard, whom he, a young knight, has to defeat. But everything turns out to be much more complicated than in an ordinary fairy tale: the knight, the Lizard, and the inhabitants of the island are not at all what they seem at first, and the knight Zhenya will have to go through many dangerous adventures before a real victory is won.
